What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are the shells of porcelain that cover the teeth to close gaps and eliminate imperfections of colour, alignment or size.
Do porcelain veneers look like normal teeth?
Absolutely! The veneers are made of fine dental porcelain that reflect light just like natural tooth enamel. Porcelain veneers look and feel completely natural. They are virtually undetectable, no one will notice you have them but they will notice your stunning smile!
What is the procedure for porcelain veneers?
This procedure requires 3 visits to design, create and place.
Diagnosis and treatment planning. Sean will examine your smile and discuss your expectations. Together you will plan your new smile and take impressions for a mock wax up.
Preparation. The teeth will be minimally prepared by removing a small amount of enamel for each tooth receiving a porcelain veneer and an impression taken so that an accurate replica can be made in the laboratory where a skilled technician will create your porcelain veneers. The completed restorations will be ready in 2 – 3 weeks. Temporary veneers are placed in the meantime which will act as your trial smile.
Bonding. At the third appointment the temporary veneers are carefully removed. The porcelain veneers are then, once your approval has been given, bonded permanently to the prepared tooth. The porcelain veneers are tried in place and an appropriate shade of bonding cement selected. Then you are ready to reveal your new smile.
How do I look after my porcelain veneers?
There is normally a check visit one to two weeks after fitting the veneers to check for comfort, function and aesthetics.
You then brush and floss as normal using a non abrasive tooth paste. Good aftercare ensures optimal durability and aesthetics of your new porcelain veneers and maintains your newly transformed smile of your dreams.
